The ring-tailed lemur is one of the most distinguished lemur species because of its black and white tail. There are approximately 5 000 of these endangered primates left in Madagascar in the wild. In fact, populations have decreased by 95% since 2000 because of illegal logging, slash and burn agriculture, poaching for bush meat and the pet trade.
Lemur Love is a small US-based non-profit organization focussing on lemur research and empowering local Malagasy women to create employment and promote conservation. They also set up the Mirindrasoa Women’s Association to enable women to start small businesses by helping them with micro-loans.
